Apply the baseline

Learn

A baseline to compare against

A plan is always a difference: your code compared with what Terraform already manages. Right now Terraform manages nothing, so every plan is all creates. To read a change or a destroy, something has to exist first.

demo_server.web: Creating...
demo_server.web: Creation complete

Apply complete! Resources: 2 added, 0 changed, 0 destroyed.

After this apply, both resources are in state, and that's the baseline every later plan in this lesson is compared against. The next two steps only run plan, so the baseline never moves: each one shows the difference between your edited code and these two resources.

Switch to apply and run it so both resources exist in state. Now that there's a baseline to compare against, the next plans will show changes instead of creates.
