Reading a create

Nothing exists yet, so every resource in your code is new:

  # demo_network.main will be created
  + resource "demo_network" "main" {
      + name = "main"
      + cidr = "10.0.0.0/16"
      + id = (known after apply)
      + arn = (known after apply)
    }

  # demo_server.web will be created
  + resource "demo_server" "web" {
      …
    }

Plan: 2 to add, 0 to change, 0 to destroy.

Each resource gets a comment line saying what will happen to it (will be created), then its attributes, each with the same +. (known after apply) marks computed attributes, whose value only exists once the resource is real.

The summary line

The last line of every plan is the headline you check before every apply. Read it like a pilot's pre-flight: how many creates, how many changes, and — most importantly — how many destroys. A surprise number here is exactly the kind of thing plan exists to catch.

Nothing exists yet. Run plan. Each resource is prefixed with a green + — Terraform will create it — and the bottom line reads Plan: 2 to add, 0 to change, 0 to destroy. Then answer the questions below.

What does a + in front of a resource mean?
After this plan, does anything exist yet?

Your answers are checked when you run this step.
